HOT ON THE TRAILER - Comic book and Hollywood celebs weigh in with their thoughts on the Spider-Man 2 movie trailer.
(Wizard #150, April 2004) Friday, May 14, 2004It was one of the most highly anticipated trailers of all time, debuting in a midnight showing that had all the feel of a movie premiere. With a project shrouded in secrecy, this represented the first worldwide live-action look at the movie Doc Ock. The Spider-Man 2 trailer had the film world buzzing and here's what celebrities and comic creators had to say:
Steven Niles, writer of 30 Days of Night "As a comic book super-freak, I was really impressed with the 'Spidey 2' trailer for doing two things: revealing an awesome Doc Ock, but also creating a mystery...how the f--- does Doc Ock know where Peter Parker eats and why is he attacking him? Does he know he's Spidey? Great trailer!"
Paul Dini, co-creator of Batman: The Animated Series "There's no denying that the live-action Doc Ock looks amazing, but I'm most intrigued by the addition of John Jameson to the ongoing story of Peter and Mary Jane. Having the son of Spidey's constant tormentor romance MJ is a plot wrinkle worthy of Stan Lee himself. Yeah, I'll be lining up opening day for this one."
Seth Green, co-star of The Italian Job "I love Alfred Molina in this role and the way they translated that character for the movie. That last shot of Doc Ock climbing up the tower really makes me want to see this movie."
Mark Millar, writer of Ultimates "My reaction was that I should stop being such a cheap Scots bastard and upgrade my computer from dial-up. If I tried to download this it would take a day and a half, but I'm actually very excited and tempted to do so."
Brian Michael Bendis, writer of Ultimate Spider-Man "I was tingly in the pants. I have read the script to this movie and to get just a tease that they got it so right is just such a relief. This is not the victim of sh--ty sequel-itis."
Michael Turner, artist of Superman/Batman "I thought the Doc Ock costume looked badass. The part where he's climbing up that clock tower-that's pretty killer. Alfred Molina is a really good actor for that role. One of my favorite parts from the first movie was the last two minutes, with Spider-Man swinging through the city. They totally brought that out for the trailer, which is killer."
Tobey Maguire, star of Spider-Man "People say, 'Oh, it's awesome,' and all that kind of stuff, you know? So, yeah, it's good. I haven't actually seen it in the theater, which is definitely an experience you want to have."
Dan DiDio, Vice President of Editorial, DC Comics "Behind Green Goblin, Doc Ock is my favorite Spidey villain. So it's impossible not to get excited seeing that trailer!"
